Do you have an issue with water getting into your house creating dampness? This can be a nuisance for a load of people as well as the price to take care of the damages.
Installing a drainage system all around the foundation of your house will help. Here are a number of steps to avoid rain water entering your garage.A couple of steps you ought to take to ensure running rain water does not penetrate into your home.
Dig a trench all around the boundary of the foundation. The trench will have to be dug down to the footers of the foundation and be around 4' wide. You will equally need to dig a trench far from the foundation to either a percolation trench, dry well or to sunlight if the incline of the land allows. Percolation trench is also called an infiltration trench similar to the trench you have around the foundation. Perforated pipes are then added at the percolation trench. This is the best way to take care of the run. A pit filled with smashed stones or a cemented slant referred to as a dry well. The most convenient way is running it to daylight if the structure site has a sharp enough incline.
Lay the filter material
Along the bottom of the trench, you will unroll the filter fabric, lapping the filter material up the sidewalls of the foundation. Smooth the remaining material away from the foundation.
Crushed Stone And Pipeline Layer
Next you ought to cover the fabric with 3 to 4 inches of smashed stones. Next start to install the 4 inch perforated drainpipe around the entire area of foundation. You can actually install the perforated drainpipe on a level ground. Use a solid 4" PVC tee to connect the ends of the perforated pipeline. Then the tee is joined to the PVC drainpipe which in turn heads to the percolation trench or dry well. Cover the pipe with crushed stone, 8-10" above the footing of the foundation. Then, pull the excess filter fabric over the smashed stone, being sure it laps against the foundation. Covering the smashed stones completely is important as it helps prevent the drainpipe from clogging up with soil.
Use Gravel To Cover
Use at least 6 inches of coarse sand or gravel to fill, this helps prevent any dirt going under the fabric and blocking the drain. Now back fill the trenches. The soil should slop far from the foundation.
Landscape
You have your drainage installation system nearly completed. Lay a layer of filter fabric over the soil. Grab a few of your favorite plants and herb them before covering the filter material with tree bark, or stones. Not only will you have a dry garage, you will have lovely landscaping.
